‘Trumbo’ leads SAG noms; ‘Straight Outta,’ ‘Beasts of No Nation’ set place in conversation

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Hollywood blacklist drama “Trumbo” has a leading three Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for best ensemble, best actor for Bryan Cranston, and best supporting female for Helen Mirren.

Nominations for the awards were announced on Wednesday, bringing a murky awards season into a bit more focus.

“Beasts of No Nation” and “Straight Outta Compton” also solidified their place in the awards conversation with nominations for best ensemble. Other nominees included “Spotlight” and “The Big Short.”

The Screen Actors Guild Awards honour the best film and television performances of the year and have traditionally served as a helpful indicator of potential Oscar acting nominees.

The awards will be broadcast live on Jan. 30 from Los Angeles on TNT and TBS.
