Cawston Players produce wartime drama this November 11 weekend
The Cawston Players are proud to present Juohn Murrell's, Waiting for the Parade.
Set in Calgary during World War II, this play reminds us that the wounded are not always at the front. Five women gather to work for the war effort while men they love are away.
Playwright John Murrell interviewed people who had lived through the war. From the women came powerful memories of waiting for news, of shifting loyalties and enmities.
“Women are the connective tissue which allows the human race to keep faith that normal life will ultimately return. Women remind us, with wit and resilience, of the great importance of family, and also that family is not everything; of the great importance of patriotism, and also that patriotism is not everything.Their pragmatism is utterly heroic,” said Murrell.
The play is a series of vignettes often accompanied by music. The women are in sync with the 1940’s swing music and dance.
The Cawston Players are an amateur theatre club that has produced plays locally for the past 15 years.
