Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,789.95, down 226.64 points):

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Down 50 cents, or 10.12 per cent, to $4.44 on 6.6 million shares.

Twin Butte Energy Ltd. (TSX:TBE). Oil and gas. Down one cent, or eight per cent, to 11.5 cents on 5.9 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up 12 cents, or 4.51 per cent, to $2.78 on five million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down 26 cents, or 6.10 per cent, to $4 on 4.5 million shares.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA). Oil and gas. Down 56 cents, or 6.31 per cent, to $8.31 on four million shares.

Toronto-Dominion Bank (TSX:TD). Bank. Down 68 cents, or 1.26 per cent, to $53.30 on 3.9 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Hudson’s Bay Company (TSX:HBC). Retailer. Down $2.50, or 12.56 per cent, to $17.40 on 3.2 million shares. Hudson’s Bay Co. chief executive Jerry Storch told analysts the buying habits of the company’s Canadian staff have noticeably shifted. Hudson’s Bay, which operates Saks and Lord and Taylor stores in the U.S., says even employee discounts are not enough to convince staff to shop south of the border anymore.
