Business break-ins in Penticton keep RCMP busy

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP are investigating several commercial break and enters that took place in the city last week.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police responded to a break-in at Sport Chek overnight on Oct. 20. Police arrived at the retail outlet at 4:45 a.m. to find a front window smashed. Video revealed thieves went for Under Armour hoodies located near the entry point.

RCMP were called to the Fairview Liquor Store on Fairview Road on Oct. 21 after a complaint of an attempted break and enter. The front door and window had been shattered sometime overnight. Thieves attempted to gain entry by removing the entrance door using a tow rope tied to a vehicle but were unsuccessful in gaining entry.

A torn piece of rope was still dangling from the window bars. An older Jeep Cherokee containing two occupants are believed to be involved in the incident.

An alarm sounded at NAPA Auto Parts on Oct. 23 at 1:21 a.m. Police arrived to find a pane of glass had been removed from the garage door but upon inspection by a property representative, nothing was noticed missing. A video of the incident shows a man crawling along the floor while in the building for a short period, then disappearing.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
