B.C. Lions re-sign offensive lineman Kirby Fabien to two-year extension

VANCOUVER – The B.C. Lions have re-signed offensive lineman Kirby Fabien to a two-year contract extension through 2017, the club announced Tuesday.

The 25-year-old from Calgary was the seventh overall pick in the 2012 CFL draft and has appeared in 36 straight games for B.C.

Fabien was set to become a free agent in February.

“Kirby has developed into a very talented offensive lineman,” Lions head coach and general manager Wally Buono said in a release. “The game is won and lost along the line of scrimmage and our ability to keep gifted young players such as Kirby is a big part of our goal of building a championship team.”

The Lions finished the 2015 regular season 7-11 before bowing out in the West Division semifinal to the Calgary Stampeders.

“I’m excited about what we are building in B.C.,” said the six-foot-six, 315-pound Fabien. “We have all the pieces to be a competitive football team and I know we’re going to be back in a big way in 2016.”
