Halloween not so scary for Penticton police

PENTICTON – Halloween wasn’t a horror show for Penticton RCMP this year.

Cpl. Don Wriggleworth says police responded to fewer calls for injuries, assaults or alcohol fuelled issues this year compared to previous years.

“All in all, it was a good Halloween night. Wiltse School seemed to be the ongoing hot spot for teens to act up,” he says, with only a few minor altercations reported.

Wrigglesworth speculated the reason for the decreased activity may have something to do with the fact Halloween occurred on Monday this year.

Police were called to Wiltse Boulevard last night, Oct. 31, around 9:30 p.m. after a group of youths dressed in black egged a vehicle parked on the street. The owner reported no damage after getting the vehicle cleaned.

Police also responded to a motor vehicle incident on Green Mountain Road overnight Monday after receiving a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole around 2:30 a.m.

A Mazda with no plates, no driver and significant damage was found at the scene, with evidence of the driver having hit their head on the windshield.

Police attended a nearby residence where a man told police he fell down some stairs, injuring his face. Further questioning revealed him to be the driver of the vehicle.

He was issued a number of tickets for driving without insurance and other violations related to the crash.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
