DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – The latest on the killing of a man by a court security officer in Dearborn Heights, Michigan (all times local):

6 p.m.

Authorities have identified the man killed by a security officer as he brandished a knife and tried to bypass security at a suburban Detroit police department and court complex.

Michigan State Police said the man killed in the Thursday morning shooting at the Dearborn Heights Police Department and district court is 48-year-old Mark Henning. Investigators say the Dearborn Heights resident confronted the guard with the weapon and was shot.

State police officials are handling the investigation. They say an autopsy is scheduled for Friday. They continue to sift through video evidence and interview witnesses.

Authorities haven’t released the identity of the security guard.

Investigators plan to give their report to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision. The complex has been cleared and turned over to the court.

Authorities say there are no other suspects and no danger to the public after a court security officer killed a man trying to bypass security at a suburban Detroit police department and court complex.

State police say a court security officer killed a man who tried to bypass security at a police department and court complex in suburban Detroit.

Police responded after a shooting was reported Thursday morning at the Dearborn Heights Police Department and courts complex.

Lt. Michael Shaw told a news conference that a male tried to get into the courthouse by bypassing security and confronted a security officer with a weapon. Shaw says the man was killed in the lobby. He declined to release the man’s age, how he was killed or what kind of weapon he had.

Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko earlier told TV stations WXYZ and WJBK that a man with a knife lunged at a security officer at a security check station and was fatally shot.

Authorities say a court security officer fatally shot a man brandishing a knife at a complex that houses a police department and courts in suburban Detroit.

The shooting was reported Thursday morning at the Dearborn Heights Police Department and courts complex.

Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko tells TV stations WXYZ and WJBK that the man with the knife lunged at a security officer at a security check station and was fatally shot.

Police at the scene gave WWJ-AM a similar account.

The Associated Press left a message with the mayor’s office and sent a message seeking information from a state police spokesman.
