B.C. SPCA seizes 45 dogs from Victoria-area man described as dog ‘hoarder’

VICTORIA – The SPCA has seized 45 dogs from a man the society describes as a hoarder in the Victoria-area community of Brentwood Bay.

The miniature poodle-bichon frise cross dogs include adults and puppies, and some of the adults are believed to be pregnant.

Society official Lorie Chortyk says the man hoarded the dogs and allowed them to breed unchecked in his home without giving them proper care, putting their welfare in jeopardy.

She says the SPCA had concerns about the man in the past and tried to work with him, and although he gave up a few dogs to a rescue group he was reluctant to surrender any more.

The dogs have been taken to the SPCA branch in Victoria for examination and treatment but Chortyk says they won’t be offered for adoption until ownership issues are sorted out.
