Canada’s Kaillie Humphries wins bobsled World Cup, beats Cathleen Martini of Germany

KOENIGSSEE, Germany – Canada’s Kaillie Humphries bounced back to win a women’s bobsled World Cup and hand German rival Cathleen Martini her first defeat on the Koenigssee course in three years on Friday.

Martini beat the Olympic and world champion last week in Altenberg but the Canadian and brakewoman Chelsea Valois of Zenon Park, Sask., powered down in snowy conditions for a comfortable win, their sixth victory in seven races this season.

Sandra Kiriasis of Germany was third.

Humphries, from Calgary, clocked a time of one minute 43.07 seconds for the two runs, beating Martini by 0.42 seconds.

The Koenigssee course is the oldest artificial ice track in the world.
