Kosovo Serb acquitted of war crimes
PRISTINA, Kosovo – A Kosovo court has acquitted an ethnic Serb on charges of war crimes.
The Court in Peja, 85 kilometres (50 miles) west of the capital Pristina, acquitted the ethnic Serb identified only as M.Z. of war crimes and genocide charges following suspicion of his involvement committed in crimes in June-July 1998 in the Kline municipality.
The court on Friday also released him from the house arrest.
Kosovo’s bloody war for independence ended with a 78-day NATO air campaign in June 1999, which stopped a Serbian crackdown against ethnic Albanian separatists.
Kosovo’s 2008 independence is not recognized by Serbia.
