Bruises, unanswered questions led coroner to amend Natalie Wood’s death certificate

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A new report shows coroner’s officials amended Natalie Wood’s death certificate based on unanswered questions about bruises on her upper body.

Los Angeles coroner’s officials state in an addendum to Wood’s autopsy report that some of the bruises may have occurred before she went into the water and drowned, but that could not be definitively determined.

Authorities renewed their inquiry into Wood’s 1981 death in late 2011. Monday’s report lays out the reasons for altering her cause of death from drowning to “drowning and other undetermined factors.”

Wood was on a yacht off Catalina Island with husband Robert Wagner and co-star Christopher Walken before somehow ending up in the water.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore says Wood’s death is an open investigation, but reiterated that Wagner is not considered a suspect.
