SUMMERLAND – A dropped purse is the alleged cause for a white truck colliding with a McDonald's outdoor eating area in Summerland on Thursday.
Cpl. Bruce Haley said a Summerland woman, 70, told police she exited the Summer Fair Mall on 7519 Prairie Valley Rd. and dropped her purse in the area of the accelerator. Her 2006 Chevrolet pickup went through flower beds, bushes and smashed the glass walls of the eating area before coming to a stop. No one was reported injured.
A witness said four people were eating in the outdoor area five minutes before the accident took place.
Police got the call at 3:37 p.m. and after an investigation ticketed the woman for not taking due care of a vehicle. McDonald's damages are estimated at $10,000 and damage to the truck is about $5,000.
