Okanagan Rail Trail Land acquisition ‘prepares Coldstream for the future’

VERNON – The Okanagan Rail trail may have just gotten a two-acre piece of land along Kalamalka Lake Road.

According to a release from the District of Coldstream, the district has reached a tentative deal to obtain a two-acre parcel of land along Kalamalka Road.

The release states the property purchase will support the local and regional parks service, primarily the Okanagan Rail Trail.

The district says funding for the purchase comes from existing reserves and short-term borrowing.

“The acquisition of the property at 16506 Kalamalka Road will provide a key piece of land in support of the anticipated growth of usage along the Rail Trail,” Mayor Jim Garlick says in the release.

“The economic activity generated by users of the Rail Trail will benefit Coldstream and the region and we need to be prepared for that. This acquisition better prepares Coldstream for the future.”
