South Carolina’s governor is seeking $19 million for construction of a new conference centre in Greenville.
Gov. Henry McMaster requested funding for the project in the budget proposal he sent to state lawmakers Friday, the Greenville News reported.
Plans call for building the South Carolina Art & Cultural Center on 7 acres (2.83 hectares) near the banks of the Reedy River. The proposal calls for a mix of event space as well as art exhibits from two museums — the Greenville County Art Museum and Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery.
“We are very pleased to have the support of the governor and legislature,” Greenville Mayor Knox White said Friday. “It will be a major economic driver.”
