First chance for feedback on Kamloops 2017 budget

KAMLOOPS – The chance to have a say in how your tax dollars are spent in Kamloops is coming up.

A public budget meeting is being held tomorrow evening, Nov. 15. It’s the first meeting for citizens in the City of Kamloops to have input in municipal spending. City staff and councillors will be on hand and looking to the public for ideas and feedback for the city’s supplemental budget and five year financial plan.

The basic budget will be set by council, covering things like police, firefighters and city staff, but the supplemental budget deals with other items residents want built in the community. Last year items included in the supplemental budget included a refit for the local rugby club, new pickle ball courts and money to complete the BMX park. A boat launch at Pioneer Park was not approved.

Things on this year’s supplemental budget may include a new skatepark for McArthur Island or additional requests from city administration not covered by the basic budget.

The public may bring forward any ideas, but council will have final say on what’s approved.

The meeting runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Sandman Centre’s Parkside Lounge and will include an overview of the financial plan and round table discusions about different issues.
