Blaze destroys trailers at makeshift campground near Oliver
PENTICTON – A late afternoon blaze destroyed a trailer on the Osoyoos Indian Band yesterday.
Oliver Fire Department spokesperson Rob Graham says both Oliver and Osoyoos fire departments were mobilized after a call was received yesterday, Nov. 15, at around 5:10 p.m., about a structure fire in the vicinity of the The Cottages on Osoyoos Lake.
“Once we had an officer respond, we realized the location of the incident was on Nk'mip Road, which is accessible from the cottages, or by using a back road from Oliver,” Graham says, adding at that point the Osoyoos department was told to stand down.
Graham says a couple of trailer units put together to provide living accommodations was destroyed.
The units were located in a makeshift campground where a number of other similar units were scattered about.
No one was hurt in the incident. Graham says cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
