Penticton poppy donation thief sought by RCMP

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP are on the look out for a suspect involved in thefts of Rembrance Day poppy donations last week.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says on Wednesday, Nov. 9, a man stole container of cash donations from an undisclosed retail store on Fairview Road. The suspect got away on a bicycle.

Wrigglesworth says police are looking for a Caucasian man in his mid-30s who appeared dishevelled. He as wearing a black jacket and brown cowboy hat. He was carrying a backpack.

Police later found the suspect's bike, jacket and backpace abandoned on Industrial Avenue. There were poppies in the backback, but the cash was gone.

The man may have been involved in a similar theft the day before, Wrigglesworth says.

RCMP have released a still image taken from a security camera they suspect is the thief.
