B.C. auditor general to look at half-million BC Place reno: NDP

VANCOUVER – The NDP says B.C.’s auditor general will examine the half million-dollar cost of renovating B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver, work that included replacing the inflatable dome with a retractable roof.

Opposition tourism critic Spencer Chandra-Herbert says he’s received a letter from auditor general John Doyle saying his office will conduct a fact-finding exercise into the upgrades.

He says there’s no time-line for the review, but based on what’s found, Doyle may conduct a deeper investigation.

Chandra-Herbert says while the government claims the work came in under budget at $514 million, the cost estimate made in 2008 was just $100 million.

Chandra-Herbert says the audit is a good news because taxpayers deserve more information. (CKNW)
