Break and enters net little loot for Penticton thieves

PENTICTON – Penticton thieves had a relatively unsuccessful time conducting their illegal activities in the city last week.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl.Don Wrigglesworth says on Nov. 8 at about 6:50 a.m., two men tried to break into a Wilson Street residence by crawling through a window. They were interrupted and fled on foot, leaving two bikes behind. Both men were apprehended by police and were given court dates.

On Monday, Nov.14, a break and enter was reported at the Independent Senior Residence in the 3400 block of Wilson Street. The resident’s door was forced open during the noon hour when the person was in the dining room for lunch.

Wrigglesworth says nothing of value was taken, adding the incident could have been a case of mistaken identity, as the former occupants in next door’s unit were known to owe money around the city. A moving company was using a rear door in the building at the time, which may have given the suspect entry to the building. The only loss reported was damage to the door.

A theft on Nov. 14 on Orchard Avenue address resulted in the loss of a plate compactor valued at $1,700 and a five horse Honda motor with the word “Cotter” written on it.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
