BREAKING: Kamloops mayor Peter Milobar wins candidacy vote for provincial election

KAMLOOPS – The B.C. Liberal Party has found a replacement for Terry Lake.

Mayor Peter Milobar will be running for the party in the riding of Kamloops-North Thompson. Milobar beat two others in a riding association vote today, Nov. 19.

The mayor won out over North Shore Business Improvement Association executive director Steven Puhallo and Tobiano developer Michael Grenier after votes were cast by Liberal party members in Kamloops, Clearwater, Barriere and Sun Peaks.

Milobar is now one of four candidates running for the Kamloops' northern riding in the May 9, 2017 provincial election. He will be facing off with Barbara Nederpel of the NDP, Dan Hines of the Green Party and Peter Kerek of the Communist Party.

The three men had been campaigning for the riding associations membership since Lake announced his intentions to step down Sept. 1. Puhallo was the first to throw his hat in the ring the next day, followed by Milobar a few days later and Grenier in mid-September.

Milobar follows closely in Lake’s footsteps, as Lake was mayor of Kamloops immediately prior to Milobar, and moved from the mayor’s chair to a seat in the legislature in 2009. The mayor will not be giving up his spot on city council right away, though he will take a leave of absence when things heat up.
