Changes already made to new Skaha Park and marina agreements

PENTICTON – The ink is barely dry on two new Skaha Park agreements, but changes are already being made.

The City of Penticton and Trio Marine Group continue to refine two agreements presented to council earlier this month.

A revised settlement agreement and a revised enhanced marina agreement have been created to deal with continuing public concerns over loss of green space in Skaha Lake Park, according to a City of Penticton media release.

A section of the agreement which would have allowed the city to conduct a public consultation process in three years’ time to investigate a revenue generating park amenity has also been removed from the agreements originally presented on Nov. 1. Mayor Andrew Jakubeit says in the release the step was taken because of continuing concerns from the public heard by both the city and Trio Marine.

A new provision will allow Trio to demolish the present concession and boathouse, return the site to green space, and take up an equal amount of land to the west of the dragon boat storage building, with no net loss of green space or boat trailer parking, the city says.

Reference to a cold wine and beer store has also been removed and some early dates regarding conditions have been pushed back two months in the revised documents, which can be viewed on the city’s web site.

A special meeting of council is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre in a sesson open to the public to attend and provide input.
