Ride the bus for free this month in the Central Okanagan

KELOWNA – The new contract is in place, drivers are back to work, and Kelowna Regional Transit riders don't have to pay bus fare for the rest of the month of November. 

An agreement between First Canada and Amalgamated Transit Union local 1722 means transit services in the Central Okanagan resumed today, Nov. 24. The two-week strike began on Nov. 10, 2016, disprupting service for bus riders in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country and Peachland.

According to Jonathon Dyck of B.C. Transit, a week of free transit is being provided to riders as a way of saying thank you for their patience during the disruption of service. Registered handDART passengers can ride for free as well.

"We are pleased First Canada and their employees were able to reach an agreement, we apologize to all of our customers and thank them for their patience," Dyck says.

Transit passes are being refunded on a pro-rated basis for any disruption longer than three days in length. Refunds will only be processed at Kelowna City Hall.
