Most actively traded companies on the TSX

Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,170.41, down 203.49 points):

Eldorado Gold Corp. (TSX:ELD). Miner. Up eight cents, or 2.27 per cent, to $3.61 on 12.2 million shares.

Rubicon Minerals Corp. (TSX:RMX). Miner. Down half-a-cent, or 16.67 per cent, to 2.5 cents on 11.1 million shares.

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Miner. Down 18 cents, or 5.14 per cent, to $3.32 on 9.7 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Down five cents, or 4.10 per cent, to $1.17 on 8.1 million shares. Bombardier will take a US$278-million pre-tax charge, about half of it non-cash, in the fourth quarter as a result of changes to the way it sells business jets. As a result of those changes, firm orders for 24 mainly larger planes and options to purchase 30 others with a combined list price of US$1.75 billion have been cancelled. The company says it expects to resell them at a higher price.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Oil and gas. Down 15 cents, or 5.38 per cent, to $2.64 on 6.7 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up two cents, or 1.71 per cent, to $1.19 on 5.9 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.B). Telecommunications and media. Up $1.14, or 4.84 per cent, to $24.70 on 4.3 million shares. Shaw Communications is selling its media division to Corus Entertainment for $2.65 billion — a deal that will help fund the telecom company’s purchase of Wind Mobile. Shaw Media includes the Global Television network and 19 specialty channels including HGTV Canada, Food Network Canada and Showcase — formerly part of the Canwest business group before it was split up.
