Two Canadian women eliminated from Australian Open qualifying tournament

MELBOURNE, Australia – Toronto’s Heidi El Tabakh and Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., were both eliminated from the Australian Open’s qualifying tournament early Thursday.

El Tabakh lost to Belgium’s Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-2. El Tabakh had 29 unforced errors compared to her opponent’s 14.

Wozniak fell to Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova 6-3, 6-3. The match took just an hour and nine minutes to play.
