What the Downtown Penticton Association has to say about all the marijuana dispensaries

PENTICTON – The Downtown Penticton Association is taking a stand against marijuana dispensaries in the city's downtown.

Penticton city council will be deciding the fate of several new applications for temporary use permits for marijuana dispensaries at its Dec. 6 meeting, bringing the current number of applications to seven.

Downtown Penticton Association executive director Lynn Allin says the group decided after a board meeting they “could not endorse or support the illegal sale of a substance, temporary or otherwise in downtown retail space in Penticton.”

Allin says the association plans to send its members a survey to find out whether there is support for marijuana dispensaries downtown.

Three of the dispensaries are located on Westminster Avenue, one on Martin Street and three on Main Street.

“It’s an awkward situation for everyone right now,” says Allin. “There are no regulations. We’ve had several discussions with the RCMP regarding policing. We anticipate we’ll be receiving calls too."
