Private funeral being planned for David Bowie

NEW YORK, N.Y. – David Bowie’s family said they are planning a private funeral for the late icon.

His family posted a noted titled “Thank you” on Bowie’s websites as well as his social media pages on Thursday.

“The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend. They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times,” the Facebook posting said.

Bowie died Sunday at age 69 after battling cancer for 18 months. The family said “we are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world.”

Bowie released a new album called “Blackstar” last week. It topped the U.S. iTunes’ albums chart.
