France to host meeting over Syria next week

PARIS – France has announced it will host a ministerial meeting of 10 countries over the situation in Syria next week.

France’s foreign affairs ministry said Monday’s discussions will gather foreign affairs ministers from France, Britain, Germany, Italy, United States, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, plus a representative from the European Union.

Riad Hijab, the head of the Western-backed Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee, will also take part in the meeting.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Mac Ayrault also plans a working dinner with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

The ministry has condemned the airstrikes on camps for displaced people in Syria that left at least 28 people dead, including women and children, saying the bombings “could be constitutive of a war crime and a crime against humanity.”
