PENTICTON –  A major shared-cost highway improvement project has been completed, the B.C. and federal governments announced today.

The $17.3 million Highway 3 improvement project between Sunday Creek and Sunday Summit was originally estimated to cost $27.6 million came in significantly under budget, says a press release issued by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure today, Nov. 28.

Five kilometres of highway has been straightened and widened with the inclusion of an additional 1.6 km of westbound passing lane and extension of the eastbound passing lane by one km.

Emil Anderson Construction Inc. of Kelowna began work on the project in June, 2015 and completed the work on time.

The highway improvement project was funded jointly through a $6.5 million investment of the Building Canada Fund and $10.8 million from the provincial government.

“Highway 3 provides an important link connecting the communities of Hope and Princeton, and through this highway upgrade project completion, we are improving safety, reliability, and connectivity for all traffic,” B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone said.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
