Canada’s Noemie Thomas wins bronze at U.S. Pro Swim Series event

AUSTIN, Texas – Canadian Noemie Thomas won the bronze medal on Friday in the women’s 100-metre butterfly to open the second stop on the U.S. Pro Swim Series circuit.

The Richmond, B.C. native finished her event in 58.38 seconds. World champion Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden won the gold medal in 56.38 seconds, with Olympic champion Dana Vollmer of the U.S. second in 57.61.

Santo Condorelli almost added a second medal for Canada after placing fourth in the men’s 100 freestyle. Olympic champion Nathan Adrian of the U.S. was the winner in 48.91, France’s Jeremie Stravius second in 48.96 and American Jimmy Feigen third in 49.20.

Feigen edged Condorelli, fourth at the world championships this past summer in Russia, by a mere 0.01 seconds (49.21) for the final spot on the podium.

Winnipeg’s Chantal Van Landeghem was eighth in the women’s 100 freestyle.

Competition continues through to Sunday.
