Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard falls in Hobart International final to Alize Cornet
HOBART, Australia – Canadian Eugenie Bouchard was bounced in the final of the Hobart National on Saturday, falling in straight sets to France’s Alize Cornet.
Cornet needed just over an hour to defeat Bouchard, taking the match 6-1, 6-2.
Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., never got into a rhythm with her service game. She won just 37 per cent of her first-serve points and had five double faults. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Alize won 65 per cent of her first services and had just two double faults.
This was the second tournament for Bouchard since having her 2015 season end early because of injury. The 21-year-old has gone 19 months since winning her sole WTA title in Germany in May 2014.
The Hobart International is a tune-up event for the upcoming Australian Open.
