JAKARTA, Indonesia – Montreal’s Algerian Consulate says the Canadian killed in Thursday’s attacks in Indonesia’s capital was Quebec resident Tahar Amer-Ouali.
Deputy Consul Chabane Berdja says Amer-Ouali moved to Canada from Algeria many years ago and was a dual citizen living in Laval.
Berdja said the victim had five children and split his time between Laval and Indonesia.
Indonesian police identified Amer-Ouali on Saturday as one of two civilians killed in attacks by suicide bombers and gunmen in central Jakarta.
Police say seven people died and more than 20 were injured in the assaults carried out by militants tied to the Islamic State group.
Global Affairs Canada says it cannot confirm the identity of the Canadian victim due to the Privacy Act.
