Missouri dog rescued after being stuck in pipe for days

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Firefighters in southwestern Missouri have rescued a dog that got stuck in an underground pipe for as long as eight days.

Volunteer firefighter Jeff Romines tells the Springfield News-Leader that Jack the black Labrador is “a little chubby” and likely got stuck trying to turn around in the culvert.

He says the dog needed help getting out but appeared to be fine after being rescued Wednesday by the Central Taney County Fire Rescue crew.

Romines says Jack’s owners said the dog had been missing for more than a week. The owner found Jack after hearing his whimpering when checking the mailbox. Firefighters had to dig out part of the homeowner’s driveway and use a special saw to cut through the metal pipe.

Romines says Jack is now recovering at home.
