Victoria teen puts CPR training to use by reviving dying man: police
VICTORIA – A 17-year-old Victoria-area teenager is being credited for saving the life of an elderly man.
Police say Thomas Ottewell was walking near Cordova Bay, in suburban Victoria, on Wednesday when he saw the victim lying on the ground.
Police say Ottewell is a CPR-trained first aid attendant, and wasted no time checking the man’s pulse and breathing.
The youth immediately began CPR while instructing the victim’s frantic wife how to administer rescue breathing to help revive her husband.
Police and paramedics arrived and used a defibrillator to shock the man’s heart back into a proper rhythm.
They say the man was likely clinically dead before the boy began life-saving CPR and the outcome would have been much different if he’d not been as calm, collected and speedy with his assistance. (CFAX)
