Dive teams continue to investigate possible unexploded ordnance

VERNON – A military dive team from Esquimalt will be in Kalamalka Lake for the second day in a row investigating what is thought to be a sunken mortar.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the team will be working in the Cosens Bay area, about 100 feet offshore.

He says the military team has not yet confirmed if the object, which was spotted by a sea-dooer, is in fact a mortar left behind from military training during the Second World War.

"They're treating it as a piece of military equipment," Molendyk says.

While the divers are in the water, Molendyk says the area will be off limits to boaters and swimmers.

"They won't allow boaters to go over their heads," Molendyk says. "It will be marked."
