PNE cuts prices 20 per cent and shortens fair in effort to boost attendance
VANCOUVER – Vancouver’s Pacific National Exhibition is cutting prices and the number of days it’s open in an effort to boost attendance.
PNE president Michael McDaniel says prices for general admission and parking will be reduced by 20 per cent, falling to $16 from $20 last year.
The fair will also be open for 15 days instead of the usual 17, closing the first two Mondays of the fair, which are traditionally the slowest days of the annual event.
PNE spokeswoman Laura Ballance says the money saved by the Monday closures will be passed on to fair-goers in the form of lower prices.
Despite the good weather last year, about 760,000 people went to the fair, a drop of 180,000 visitors compared to the 2010 figures.
This year’s PNE will run from Aug. 17 to Sept. 2, but will be closed on Monday, Aug. 19 and Monday, Aug. 26.
