Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,745.65 up 28.02 points):

TORC Oil and Gas Ltd. (TSX:TOG). Oil and gas. Up a penny, or 0.49 per cent, at $2.07 on 19,491,401 shares. The energy sector rose 0.76 per cent to 257.27 points, which got a lift from a higher crude price. The March oil contract finished the day 47 cents US higher to $96.64 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Up 95 cents, or 6.34 per cent, at $15.94 on 18,080,472 shares. The much awaited touchscreen smartphone from the company formerly known as Research In Motion finally went on sale in Canada, albeit with little fanfare. The stock helped push the information technology sector 2.39 per cent higher to 29.97 points, making the subgroup the biggest gainer out of all the sectors in the main index.

Northland Resources S.A. (TSX:NAU). Mineral explorer. Down 4.5 cents, or 26.47 per cent, at 12.5 cents on 10,093,236 shares. The Luxembourg-based company said it failed to raise money to finance the developmnts of a new mine, cancelling equity and debt offerings totallign $375 million.

Sirocco Mining Inc. (TSX:SIM). Miner. Unchanged at 62 cents on 5,025,000 shares.

Primaris Retail Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:PMZ.UN). Shopping mall operator. Up 57 cents, or 2.12 per cent, at $27.50 on 4,837,533 shares. The two rival groups that have been competing to buy Primaris, one of Canada’s largest shopping mall operators, have reached a $4.6-billion compromise. H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:HR.UN) will own Primaris and the rest of its portfolio while the KingSett consortium will buy 18 Primaris properties. Shares of H&R fell 16 cents, or 0.68 per cent at $23.50 on 1,876,382 shares.

Bombardier (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Up 10 cents, or 2.53 per cent, at $4.05 on 3,996,823 shares.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,215.27 down 1.23 points):

Sagres Energy Inc. (TSXV:SGI). Oil and gas. Unchanged at 1.5 cents on 5,617,800 shares.

Zenyatta Ventures Ltd. (TSXV:ZEN). Junior explorer. Up 26 cents, or 24.53 per cent, at $1.32 on 4,238,445 shares. The Thunder Bay, Ont.-based company said that a second series of tests on its Albany graphite deposit yielded results exceeding the target of 99 per cent carbon.

Canadian National Railway (TSX:CNR). Railway. Up 34 cents, or 0.36 per cent, at $95.49 on 622,757 shares. The country’s largest railway is boosting its capital spending to about $1.9 billion this year, up from $1.8 billion it spent in 2012, as it moves to upgrade its railway network in both Canada and the United States.

Dollarama Inc. (TSX:DOL). Discount retailer. Down 18 cents, or 0.30 per cent, aqt $59.95 on 234,015 shares. The company will share its business expertise and provide sourcing services to Latin American chain Dollar City in an eight-year agreement. Dollarama won’t take on operational responsibilities or make a capital commitment, but could eventually acquire a majority interest in the chain.
