Official: More than two dozen vehicles in fiery Georgia interstate pileup; 3 dead, 12 hurt

MONTROSE, Ga. – An emergency official says a fiery pileup involving more than two dozen vehicles on a Georgia interstate has left at least three people dead and 12 others hurt.

A petroleum tanker truck also caught fire in the wrecks that happened Wednesday morning near Montrose on Interstate 16, a major artery between Savannah and Macon.

Laurens County EMS Director Terry Cobb tells The Associated Press that 12 people were taken to a hospital in the nearby town of Dublin, but most of those injuries appeared to be minor.

Cobb says at least six vehicles were still on fire when crews arrived. He says it appeared there were two or three separate crashes involving as many as 27 vehicles.
