A look at other schools that were torn down following deadly shootings

LA LOCHE, Sask. – There have been calls to tear down the La Loche Community School after a shooting there killed two and injured seven others. The La Loche school was built in 1974, but underwent extensive renovations in 2006. Here’s a look at some other schools that were torn down after shootings:

Sandy Hook Elementary School: The school in Newtown, Mass., was demolished in 2013 after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults a year earlier. It was one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. Contractors were asked to destroy everything from the site to prevent anyone keeping parts of the building as souvenirs. The shooter’s home was also torn down last year.

Marysville-Pilchuck High School: The school in Washington State was torn down following a 2014 shooting that took the lives of three girls, all aged 14, and a 15-year-old boy. Students and parents called for the demolition in a survey following the killings.
