Man caught stealing Christmas from a Vernon home

VERNON – A man broke into a Vernon home and nearly escaped with a bag full of stolen valuables, including Christmas gifts.

RCMP say at approximately 2:15 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 7, a witness saw a man leaving a house in the 2700 block of 39 Street.

The man was seen running while being chased by another neighbour, according to a media release.

Cst. Jocelyn Noseworthy says when police arrived, they detained a man who matched the suspect's description. The suspect was placed under arrest after the neighbour who was chasing him positively identified him as the suspect.

Police recovered a bag full of items left on the route the suspect was running on. It contained jewellery, electronics and Christmas presents, all stolen from the house, Noseworthy says.

The 36-year-old man is in police custody and was scheduled to appear in court today, Dec. 8. Police have not released his name.
