At 12:37 p.m. Thursday, the lights in 1,900 Coldstream homes blinked out.
The local community relations manager for B.C. Hydro says the outage was caused by a truck that snagged a power line on Highway 6 near Coldstream Ranch.
"It's a significant outage over a widespread area," Dag Sharman says.
Throughout the afternoon, B.C. Hydro crews have been sectionalizing the line to return power to as many people as possible. As of 2:30 p.m., 60 households in close proximity to the damaged line were still without power.
Sharman says the remainder should have their power back on by 5 p.m.
There have been no reports of injury in connection with the incident.
