Hamilton Tiger-Cats agree to terms on two-year deal with veteran Chick

HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats agreed to terms on a two-year contract with veteran defensive end John Chick on Wednesday.

Chick spent six CFL seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before being released earlier this month, along with veteran slotback Weston Dressler. Dressler joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Tuesday.

“John is an incredible talent that brings significant CFL experience, professionalism and a winning pedigree to our team,” Kent Austin, Hamilton’s head coach/GM, said in a statement. “He has the ability to create pressure on the quarterback and has been solid against the run throughout his career.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bolster our defence with a player of his calibre.”

Chick, 33, had 42 tackles, 11 sacks, an interception, forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 18 games with Saskatchewan last season. The two-time Grey Cup champion and CFL all-star was also the league’s top defensive player in 2009.

The six-foot-four, 250-pound defensive end also played 19 career NFL games with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2011-’12) and also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2010.
