Frank Ocean on Orlando massacre: ‘Many hate us’

Frank Ocean is offering an emotional reflection more than a week after the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, left 49 dead and dozens more wounded.

The gay singer writes in a Tumblr post “many hate us and wish we didn’t exist.” He also relates a story about his father using a racial epithet toward a transgender waitress when Ocean was 6 years old and discusses anti-gay messages he heard in church.

Ocean also appeared to touch on the debate over which bathrooms transgender people can use, writing “many are annoyed by our wanting to be married like everyone else or use the correct restroom like everyone else.”

The 28-year-old Ocean opened up about his sexual orientation in 2012.
