Injured snowmobiler rescued near Kelowna

KELOWNA – An injured snowmobiler was safely brought out of the woods yesterday by rescue crews after being helped by locals and fellow backwoods enthusiasts.

Around 3:06 p.m. yesterday, Dec. 12, Kelowna RCMP were notified of a spot beacon activation east of Kelowna on Jubilee Mountain in the area of Three Forks Road and Greystokes Road, according to a RCMP media release. The snowmobiler had been thrown from his vehicle and needed medical assistance.

"It truly was a coordinated effort between emergency crews, search and rescue crews and several bystanders who happened across the injured male," Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says in the release. "RCMP would like to extend their gratitude to the multiple groups of snowmobile enthusiasts who didn't think twice, when they brought blankets to keep the injured man warm, splinted one of his limbs and eventually transported him together by snowmobile to the main snowmobiler chalet on Greystokes."

The rescue was a combined effort of RCMP and search and rescue crews from the Central and North Okanagan.
