Colder temperatures leaving, cloudy skies arriving over the Okanagan this weekend

KELOWNA – The cold snap the Okanagan has been going through is coming to an end, according to Environment Canada’s predictions, and in its place comes more snow next week.

Expect a mainly cloudy day today, Dec. 15, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries and the temperature steady near minus 11 Celsius. Tonight the mercury will drop to -15 C with a slight chance of flurries.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a high of around -12 Celsius during the day tomorrow and low of -18 C tomorrow night, which could be the coldest night so far this season. However, after that, temperatures are trending upwards for the next few days.

Saturday and Sunday will both be cloudy, but Saturday should warm to a -14 C while Sunday is expected to get up to -8 C during the day and potentially -7 C. Sunday night new snow is expected.

The warming trend should continue into next week, with cloudy days and snow flurries Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Dec. 21 may actually be above freezing, with 1 C forecast currently.

The average for the season is typically 1 C to -4 C for the region.
