Canadian Ashley Nichols loses bid for Muay Thai super-bantamweight title
TEMECULA, Calif. – Canadian Muay Thai fighter Ashley Nichols lost a unanimous decision to American Tiffany (Time Bomb) Van Soest for the vacant Lion Fight super-bantamweight belt.
The judges scored the fight Friday night 50-45, 49-46, 49-46 for Van Soest (16-2-1), who added the 120-pound title to the 125-pound championship she already holds in the promotion.
It marked the first outing for Nichols (20-5) in Lion Fight. She normally fights at 118 pounds.
The 29-year-old from Cambridge, Ont., won the World Professional Muay Thai 55-kilogram title in Thailand in December 2014.
In the main event of Lion Fight 27, France’s Fabio Pinca (93-33-4) defended his welterweight title with a unanimous 49-44 decision win over England’s Charlie Peters (35-14) at Pechanga Resort Casino.
