Preliminary findings released after vehicle slides off hoist, killing Vernon worker
VERNON – The death of a Vernon man at an automotive shop earlier this month remains under investigation, but WorkSafe B.C. released some preliminary findings today.
Christopher Potvin, 32, was killed Dec. 9 when a truck slid of a hoist, pinning him underneath. The incident happened at Another Level Automotive & Offroad Ltd., where Potvin worked.
WorkSafe B.C. officers attended the job site on Dec. 9 after the fatal incident and issued a stop use order on a Baymate automotive lift, according to an inspection report released today, Dec. 20 to iNFOnews.ca.
The report states there were reasonable grounds to believe the lift was not in safe operating condition, or did not comply with regulations. WorkSafe ordered the employer to have the lift inspected by a qualified inspector.
A follow-up inspection report indicates the lift was inspected on Dec. 12 and no immediate repairs were required.
WorkSafe has rescinded the stop use order, meaning it is satisfied the lift is safe for use and complies with regulations.
WorkSafe B.C. and the RCMP continue to investigate.
