RCMP officer faces multiple charges in child abuse investigation: Ottawa police

OTTAWA – Ottawa police say a 41-year-old RCMP officer is facing multiple charges after a child abuse investigation that also led to charges against a woman.

The unidentified Ottawa man is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of assault with weapon, one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of failing to provide the necessities of life and one count of forcible confinement.

Ottawa police say its Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section laid the charges against the man, who was arrested Tuesday after an investigation at his residence.

He’s being held in custody for a bail hearing today.

A 34-year-old Ottawa woman has also been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of failing to provide the necessities of life and one count of forcible confinement.

Police have not released the names of the accused to protect the identity of the victims.
