Police praise citizens for stopping suspected drunk drivers in two incidents

VICTORIA – Police in Victoria are thanking citizens for their part in trying to stop a pair of alleged drunk drivers who crashed into police vehicles in two separate incidents on Wednesday.

Police say a woman who saw a 21-year-old female stumbling inside a liquor store before getting in her vehicle called police and pursued the suspected drunk driver.

When officers stopped the suspectr, she backed her car into a police cruiser and was later found to have five times the legal amount of alcohol in her system and is now faces charges.

About two hours later, 911 callers reported a speeding driver who crashed his van into a parked vehicle when he tried to flee from officers, then nearly hit an officer and slammed into a police cruiser.

The man then blew through a stop sign, collided with another parked car and took off on foot before a bicyclist managed to stop the man, who police say had multiple driving prohibitions and no driver’s licence or insurance.

Police say 44-year-old Serle Rogers, who was treated for minor injuries and now faces 10 charges, also destroyed the mattress in his jail cell.
