Canada-France war drama ‘Inch’Allah’ wins critics’ prize at Berlin festival

BERLIN – The wartorn drama “Inch’Allah” has won a prestigious prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The Canada-France co-production was awarded the Fipresci prize, bestowed by an international federation of film critics.

Written and directed by Anais Barbeau-Lavalette, the film stars Evelyne Brochu as a young Quebec obstetrician who works at a makeshift clinic in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank.

“Inch’Allah” had screened as part of the Berlin festival’s Panorama section.

It comes from the same producing team that was behind the Oscar-nominated Canadian films “Incendies” and “Monsieur Lazhar.”

“Inch’Allah” is also up for best picture at the upcoming Canadian Screen Awards, which celebrate the best in homegrown film and TV.
