NANAIMO, B.C. – Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C., was briefly locked down Thursday morning as police investigated a report of someone with a possible gun.
RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien says a tip came in at about 10:30 a.m. of a man spotted with photography equipment and something in his back pocket that looked like a firearm.
Nanaimo RCMP searched the campus for a suspect for about 30 minutes while all students and staff were locked in their buildings.
O’Brien says in a release the man was not found and that information was sent to the school’s administration, which decided to resume normal activities.
Police will be reviewing surveillance tapes and speaking with witnesses as they continue to investigate.
A bright yellow notice on the university’s website said the emergency condition has been cleared.
